On September 23, the presentation of Olesia (Lesa) Tavadze's catalog took place in the Gothic Hall of the Art Palace of Georgia. The event was attended by the artist's relatives and colleagues, guests, and the general public. The publication was created with the support of Tbilisi City Hall, the Royal Asiatic Society of Georgia, and the Art Palace of Georgia - Museum of Cultural History.
Olesia Tavadze is an original and outstanding representative of modern Georgian painting. Born on January 17, 1944, in Tbilisi, she graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. She worked as an artist in the Georgian circus troupe, in the Tbilisi Theater for Russian Miniatures for Young Audiences, and in the Batumi Theater, collaborated with Gela Kandelaki's shadow theater (costumes, scenography), and the vocal-instrumental ensemble “Rero.” She has illustrated a number of books, mostly in the field of children's literature. She is a serious painter who is also active in the field of applied art—she makes dolls and designer costumes. She takes part in many solo and group exhibitions. In addition, Olesia Tavadze is the author of a number of books and literary publications as a prose writer, children's book author, and essayist.
The catalog includes book illustrations by the artist, both for various fairy tales and poetic texts as well as for works of his own. It also offers costume sketches for the Georgian circus and theater. Asian themes deserve special attention, with the catalog containing 19 sketches: J.T. Diord's “A Nepalese Story” (5 illustrations), Japanese fairy tales, “The Fan of Tengu” (4 illustrations), and W. Hauff's “The Tale of Little Muck” (10 illustrations).
