In November, a bilingual (Georgian-English) catalog was published through the collaboration of the Royal Asiatic Society of Georgia and the Dadiani Palace of Zugdidi. The 240-page work was authored by Professor George Kalandia, President of the Royal Asiatic Society of Georgia. The catalog was prepared on the initiative of Anzor Okujava, director of the Dadiani Palaces, and includes visual and textual information about many exhibits published for the first time.
The Zugdidi Dadiani Palaces State Historical and Architectural Museum is one of Georgia's richest repositories of antiquities. It was established in April 1921 on the basis of the old artifact collection of Davit Levan's son Dadiani, the Duke of Mingrelia, and historical Georgian artifacts transferred from Mingrelia churches and monasteries. Its collections house up to 50,000 exhibits, including unique orientalist collections. The catalog will allow readers to become thoroughly acquainted with the history of orientalist collection creation in Georgia.
